Innovating For Zero Pollution

Date

Researchers from the SMART4ENV project recently took center stage at a high-level online training workshop on “Zero Waste,” organized by TÜBİTAK MAM in collaboration with the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS). The event brought together scientists, engineers, policymakers, and practitioners from COMSATS member countries, with over 100 participants discussing innovative solutions and policy frameworks for achieving zero waste and a circular economy.

Two groundbreaking studies from the SMART4ENV project were highlighted during the workshop:

1. “Non-Contact Measurement Methods of the Sludge for Dewatering Process Control” – This research explores advanced techniques to optimize sludge dewatering, a critical process in waste management and water treatment.

2. “Identification and Reporting of Beach Litter from Drone Images Using AI” – This study demonstrates how artificial intelligence can enhance environmental monitoring by automating the detection and reporting of marine litter.

These presentations underscored SMART4ENV’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology for sustainable environmental solutions. The workshop also emphasized the importance of international collaboration in addressing global challenges like pollution and climate change.
